A lifelong resident of Franklin, she was a daughter of Mills Edward and Mrs. Josephine Pruden Lawrence. She attended the University of Virginia, the University of North Carolina and Louisville Theological Seminary. She taught in high schools in Southampton County and Tennessee. She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, its Woman’s Missionary Society and the King’s Servants Sunday School Class. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Josie L. Sykes and Miss Doris Lawrence of Franklin and Mrs. Winfield C. Jackley of Chicago; a brother, David T. Lawrence of Franklin, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Franklin Baptist Church by the pastor, Rev. Ira D. Hudgins. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Charles O. Lawrence, Jr., William S. Lawrence, Richard Lawrence, David T. Lawrence, Jr., Herman Eley and John D. Abbitt.
