All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLLIAM SAMUEL LAWRENCE Funeral services for William Samuel Lawrence, aged 62, who died at his home in Seattle, Wash., on Friday, January 14, were held Monday morning at a Seattle funeral home, with the Elks lodge of which the deceased was a member conducting the rites. Mr. Lawrence was the second son of the late Mills E. Lawrence and Josie Pruden Lawrence of Franklin. Willie as he was known to his friends here, attended the Franklin Military Academy and later worked for W.T. Pace in his hardware store. During the Jamestown Exposition he was a clerk at the Inside Inn, the only hotel in the exposition grounds. In 1908 he went to Denver, Colo., to make his home. Subsequently he moved to Seattle, where he had been in the automobile business for the past 30 years. In his youth he was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church. Besides his wife, Mrs. Lenora Wigen Lawrence of Seattle, he is survived by a stepson, Robert Wigen of Seattle; five sisters, Mrs. Winfield C. Jackley of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Louise L. Pillow, Mrs. W.B . Sykes and Misses Virgie and Doris Lawrence of Franklin; four brothers, Mills E. Lawrence, Jr., of Santa Monica, Calif., Charles O. Lawrence of Norfolk, and J. Richard and David T. Lawrence of Franklin; seven nephews, Dr. M.E. Lawrence of Tacoma General Hospital, Tacoma, Wash., Lawrence W. Jackley of the United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., Charles O. Lawrence, Jr. and William S. Lawrence of Norfolk, and James, Richard and David T. Lawrence, Jr., all of Franklin; and one niece Leora Lawrence of Franklin. Mrs. Pillow has been with her brother for the past eleven months and will remain in Seattle for some weeks. ****************************************************************************** "WILLIE" LAWRENCE IS BURIED HERE SATURDAY The remains of William Samuel Lawrence, 62, who died at his home in Seattle, Wash., on Friday, January 14, were interred in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery at 10:30 o’clock Saturday morning, January 29. A brief committal service was conducted at the grave by Rev. R.D. Stephenson, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson, assisted by Rev. Randolph L. Gregory, in the presence or members of the family. Mr. Lawrence, who spent his boyhood in Franklin, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mills E. Lawrence, long-time residents of this town.
