Moffett, 53, a resident of the Burdette community and of Washington, D.C. died instantly Monday after falling 15 stories from the naval medical center building at Bethesda, Md., on which he was working. Mr. Moffett came to Virginia from Port Glasgow, Scotland, and had made his home at Burdette for 20 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite No. 455, Glasgow, his father having been one of the original members of the lodge and a past grandmaster. Mr. Moffett also was a World War veteran as a member of the Scottish troops. He was the son of the late John and Annie Lang Moffett, of Port Glasgow. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Brown Moffett; two sons, Private Jack Moffett, Fort Walters, Texas and William Gemmel Moffett of Burdette; one brother, William Gemmel Moffett, Detroit, and three sisters, Mrs. Eddie McFarlen, Detroit; Mrs. Thomas Hastle, Greenock, Scotland, and Mrs. Alexa Wilson, of California. Services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock by the Rev. John P. Batkins of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin at the home, burial being made in the family cemetery nearby. The casket was covered with a pall of white carnations and Easter lilies. Pallbearers were William Castels, Fred Thomas, Fred Conners, James Pheiffer, Arthur Doyle and John Riddler, all of Washington.
