MAXEY DIES COUNTY LEAGUE PRESIDENT WRITES The Rev. John Spears Maxey, 80, retired minister of the Virginia Methodist Conference, died here Sunday. He was a member of the High Street Methodist Church and an assistant pastor. He was teacher of the men’s Bible class for 21 years. Before coming to Franklin his charges were at Norfolk, Richmond and Montross, Orange County, Whaleyville, Danville and Skippers. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia Maxey, a sister, Mrs. Helen Maxey Harlon of Powhatan, a grandson, and a great-grandson. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Monday at Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Hubert S. Rawlings, Story Cutchins, Edward Gilliam, Chester Laine, G.E. Pillow, John Scott, Harold Atkinson and Jesse Reel. Rev.
