LEROY AUGUSTUS MAGETTE

Leroy Augustus Magette, 81, Rt. 2, Courtland, did Saturday in Southampton 
Memorial Hospital.  He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and 
retired car dealer and a retired deputy sheriff.  He was a member of the 
Courtland United Methodist Church, past master of Courtland Masonic Lodge 
No. 85 AF&AM, past president of the Courtland Ruritan Club and a charter 
member of the Sebrell Civic Club.  Survivors include his wife, Maria Gray 
Magette, two daughters, Ida Louise Thomas, Newport News and Margaret (Peggy) 
Josephine Saunders, Stone Mountain, GA.; three sons, Kindred Pope Magette 
and James Beekman Magette and John Newton Magette, all of Courtland; two 
step-daughters, Jane G. Stauffer, Richmond and Alice E. Gray of Potecasi, 
N.C. and one step-son, J.H. Gray, III, Sebrell; fourteen grandchildren.  A 
memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Courtland United 
Methodist Church by the Rev. Luther Marks.  The family suggests that 
memorials be made to either Courtland or Sebrell Methodist Churches or the 
Courtland Rescue Squad.  The body was cremated.  Wright Funeral Home is 
handling the arrangements.
