CHARLES McCLENNY

   Funeral services of Charles McClenny who died April 21, after a long 
illness in Washington were held at the grave in the family cemetery in Sedley 
Saturday afternoon.  Rev. Floyd P. Davis conducted the services and two hymns, 
"Safe In The Arms of Jesus" and "Sometime We’ll Understand" were sung by 
ladies of the community.  The deceased was the son of the late James and Mrs. 
Marietta Rowe McClenny and was born at the old homestead April 14, 1884*.  He 
spent the greater part of his life in Norfolk, having made his home in 
Washington the past few years.

   He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Leona Lowe of Suffolk, Mrs. George 
Cobb of Windsor, Mrs. Emmett Rollings of Hopewell and Miss Jennie McClenny of 
Sedley; three brothers, J.D. McClenny and John McClenny of Franklin, a number 
of nieces and nephews, the latter serving as pallbearers.

Southampton Co. native, d. 21 Apr 1936, Washington, DC, age circa 55, 
interred in the MCCLENNY family cemetery (unmarked**), Sedley, 25 Apr 1936, 
"The Tidewater News" (Franklin, VA), May 1, 1936 

**Added to list; cemetery is on Johnsons Mill Rd., at the corner of the 
   Sedley Baptist Church property; his parents are buried there also.

*His WW-I draft registration gives b. 1 Sep 1880.  The 1900 Census gives 
   b. Sep 1881 (boarder, student, Lexington, Fayette Co., KY). 

Charles was the 1st husband of Alice Mae (FELTS) McCLENNY [2m. HEFLIN]. 
   They 1m. 11 Jan 1923, in Waverly; they divorced in 1933, in Stafford Co. 
   (Ancestry.com Virginia Vital Records) 

Alice is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk.  Her obit
