All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LEORA JOHNSON McCLENNY Mrs. Leora Johnson McClenny, 85, long-time resident of the Franklin community and widow of Montrose Graham McClenny, died in Lewiston, N.C., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.R. Peele, on Monday, November 15, from the effects of an attack suffered the week before. Mrs. McClenny was the daughter of the late Jesse and Sophie [sic*] Roberts Johnson of Isle of Wight County. She was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church, the King’s Servants Bible class, and the Cornelia Leavell circle of the Woman's Missionary Society. In addition to Mrs. Peele she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. J. Richard Lawrence of Brookside Farm, near Franklin; two sons, Jesse F. McClenny of Franklin and Letcher C. McClenny of Princess Anne County; and 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services for Mrs. McClenny were held in the Franklin Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Revs. Ira D. Hudgins and R.D. Stephenson officiating. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were member of the Bruner Bible class of the Baptist Church and other friends of the family. Active pallbearers were Kermit Kelly, James Lawrence, Bradford McClenny, Conway McClenny, Cotton McClenny and Gordon McClenny. Leora Jessie (JOHNSON; Mrs. Montross G.) He was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Arnold's Co., 59th VA Militia. Her mother was his first wife Margaret Ann F. (ROBERTS) JOHNSON, daughter of unknown father & Sophia ROBERTS, m. 22 Dec 1853, by Putnam Owens. (IoW.Co. M.Reg.) Ancestry.com's Virginia Marriages gives m. 12 Dec 1853 - the date of the license. Margaret d. 13 Apr 1882 - "Rheumatic," age 48. Nansemond Co. D.Reg. (#38) gives daughter of Elijah & Sophia A. PEOPLES.
