M’CLENNY FALLS DEAD ON MAIN STREET M.G. McClenny, well-known farmer of the Franklin community, died suddenly Monday morning while walking along Main Street. Mr. McClenny had been suffering with a weakened heart for some months and stated to a passerby just a moment before his collapse that his heart was paining him. Friends took him to Raiford Hospital just across the street, but death was practically instantaneous. Montrose* Graham McClenny, or "Bug" McClenny as his friends knew and called him, had made his home in the community for many years where he was esteemed as an honorable citizen, an enterprising farmer, interested in everything looking to the welfare of his neighborhood and leading an exemplary life. He was a consistent member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of the Bruner Bible Class, having the unusual record of not missing Sunday school at any time for 17 or more years. He was in his 62nd year and is survived by his wife, who was Miss Leora Johnson of the Western Branch community in Nansemond County**; by three sons, Jesse and Letcher McClenny of Franklin and Bradford McClenny of Lawrenceville; two daughters, Mrs. J.R. Peele of Lewiston, N.C., and Miss Clarys McClenny of Franklin; one brother, John McClenny of Franklin; three sister, Mrs. Harry Whitfield, Mrs. O.F. Daughter and Mrs. Walter Daughtrey of Portsmouth, besides several grandchildren and a large family connection. Funeral services were conducted from the Franklin Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by the Pastor, R.D. Stephenson, assisted by the Rev. Roscoe Jones of High Street M.E. Church. Favorite hymns were used by the church choir, and the pallbearers were: J.R. Boyette, J. Edgar Weede, J.F. Bryant, Jr., Geo. H. Parker, Roger I. Beale, W.M. Bradshaw, Joe Bynum Gay and J.W. Beale. The honorary bearers were the member of the Bruner Bible Class, about 100 in number. Interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery here.
