M'LEMORE DIES IN COURTLAND AFTER HEART ATTACK Funeral services for Dr. William Thomas McLemore, 77, beloved Courtland physician, on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock was attended by a throng of relatives and friends that far exceeded the capacity of the Courtland Methodist Church, attesting the affection in which he was held. The services were conducted by Rev. Otis L. Gilliam, pastor of the church, assisted by Dr. R. Orman Bryant of Portsmouth, superintendent of the Portsmouth-Newport News district, and Rev. E. R. Collie of Lovingston, a former pastor. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. The active pallbearers were Benjamin Birdsong, T. H. Birdsong, Jr., Adrian Bowen, Burton McLemore, James L. McLemore, Jr., Reginald McLemore, Thomas McLemore and Edwin Westbrook, all nephews of the deceased. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men's Bible class of the Courtland Methodist Church. Dr. McLemore, who died at his home in Courtland at 6 o'clock Saturday evening, September 29, after suffering a heart attack while at breakfast Saturday morning, had been a practicing physician for the past 50 years. He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Frances Williams McLemore of Courtland, who survives him, and the son of the late Benjamin F. and Rosa Westbrook McLemore of Southampton County. A lifelong resident of the county, he was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church, serving for more than 45 years on its Board of Stewards. He was always keenly interested in the affairs of Methodism, and gave freely of his time and energy in support of its enterprises. He received his education at Locust Dale Academy, a preparatory school for boys famous in yesterday, and at the University College of Medicine, Richmond, now the Medical College of Virginia, from which he graduated in 1900. Besides his wife he is survived by son, James Hennen McLemore of Ashland, one grandchild; and a brother, Judge James L. McLemore of Suffolk.
