Matthews, a well-known former resident of Franklin, died Thursday afternoon at the home of his brother Emory Matthews, in Charlotte, N.C., following an illness of several months. He is survived, in addition to his brother, by a number of nieces and nephews. The body was brought to Franklin today and services will be held this afternoon at 5 o’clock at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson. Pallbearers will be Walter Beale, Emory Beale, Fenton Matthews, John Haslett, Ryland Beale and Carroll Beale.
