All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ NANCY BARHAM MATTHEWS Mrs. Nancy Barham Matthews, 82, widow of John Benjamin Matthews and a former resident of Franklin, died late Wednesday evening, September 30, in a Norfolk hospital. The deceased was the daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Lucy Jane Harding Barham of Southampton County. A member of High Street Methodist Church, for the past several years she had made her home at Virginia Beach with her daughter, Virginia Matthews Beaman.* Besides her daughter, Mrs. Matthews is survived by three sons, Leslie B. Matthews of Norfolk and J. Fenton and Roy T. Matthews of Franklin; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock tomorrow (Friday) afternoon in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons, followed by burial in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Rev. James W. Turner, pastor of High Street Methodist Church, and Rev. Moultrie Guerry, D.D., rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Norfolk, will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Walter C. Beaman, Jr., Donald Beaman, Roy T. Matthews, Jr., Robert C. Councill, Jr., Edward F. Gilliam, and G.
