ROY THOMAS MATTHEWS

   Roy Thomas Matthews, 55, died late Thursday, Dec. 11, in a Richmond 
hospital.

   He was the son of the late John B. and Mrs. Nancy Barham Matthews of 
Southampton County, Va.  He was a member of the High Street Methodist Church.

   He is survived by one son, Roy Thomas Matthews, Jr., of Milledgeville, Ga.; 
one sister, Mrs. Walter C. Beaman of Virginia Beach, and two brothers, J.F. 
Matthews of Franklin and Leslie B. Matthews of Johnson City, Tennessee.

   Funeral services were conducted at the Holland Funeral Home Sunday at 2 
p.m. by the Rev. James B. Douglas, pastor of the High Street Methodist Church. 
Burial was in Poplar Springs Cemetery.

   Pallbearers were E.F Gilliam, Roy Edwards, Marion Whitfield, Donald Beaman, 
Walter Beaman, Sr., and Walter Beaman, Jr.
