All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ROBERT SAMUEL MADDREY Robert Samuel Maddrey, 75, a prominent farmer residing in the Sunbeam community, died at his home on Friday night, February 22, after a brief illness. The deceased was a native of Northampton County, N.C., but had made his home in Southampton County for the past 50 years. He was a son of the late Barnes Maddrey and Mattie Long Maddrey. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Zoa Lyde Stephenson Maddrey of Handsom; a daughter, Mrs. Mattie B. Bowles of Handsom; a son, Karl B. Maddrey of Ettrick; two grandchildren: and a sister, Mrs. Mary Darden of Winston-Salem, N.C. Funeral services for Mr. Maddrey were held on Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Sunbeam Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a member. Rev. R.L. Chadwick, pastor of the church, Rev. R.B. Moore, pastor of Mt. Horeb Methodist Church, and Rev. Lewis E. Bates, pastor of Colonial Heights Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, the active pallbearers being Joe Davis, James A. Jefferson, David Maddrey, K.B. Maddrey, Jr., Parker Maddrey, Franklin Stephenson, Hoard Stephenson, Richard Stephenson and Aubrey Story. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family.
