All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ HOWARD LOYLESS MELVIN Howard Loyless Melvin, 42, husband of Mrs. Nancy Moorman White Melvin, died at the residence near Franklin on the morning of Wednesday, November 24, after a long period of ill health. He was the son of Samuel Oscar and Bessie Black Melvin of Greensboro, N.C., and a member of the Bethel Friends Meeting. He graduated from Guilford College, N.C., in the class of 1929. For several years following his graduation he taught school in eastern North Carolina, being principal of the high schools first at Roper and later at Aulander. Surviving him, besides his wife and parents, are three brothers, J.T. Melvin and Charles Melvin of Greensboro and Woodrow W. Melvin of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Earl Armstrong of Greensboro; and several nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Melvin were conducted Friday afternoon at three o’clock at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery by James R. Stein of Sedley and James Hage Ricks of Richmond. The pallbearers were Thomas N. White, Jr., John D. Abbitt, William T. Woodley, G. Warren Taylor, Isaac C. White and R.R. Lankford.
