All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOSEPH FRANKLIN MILES Joseph Franklin Miles, 78, died at his home in Capron on Friday, November 30, following a lengthy illness. Before retirement he had operated a wheelwright shop, and prior to that he had been a farmer in the Capron community. A member of the Capron Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Gray Miles. Surviving him are one son, Willie E. Miles of Capron; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Ferguson and Mrs. Ella Cook, both of Portsmouth; and one nephew, Herman Ferguson, also of Portsmouth. Funeral services were held at the grave in the Capron Cemetery at 2;30 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Rev. J. T. Cassell, pastor of the deceased, officiated, assisted by Rev. H. B. Jennings, pastor of the Capron Baptist Church, and Rev. R. H. Marks of Capron, a retired Methodist minister. A choir composed of Mrs. W. H. Baugham, Mrs. L. T. Francis, Mrs. ?? L. Nicholson, Mrs. D. L. Pope, L. T. Francis and J. D. Pope sang "Sometime We'll Understand" and "Sunrise." The casket was covered with a pall of lillies, red roses and white gladioli. Active pallbearers were Ira Barham, David H. Bell, Herbert Francis, A. J. Jenkins, Willie Johnson, L. R. Magee, C. B. Pope and Stuart Starke.
