Mr. Moyler, a native of Southampton County, was the son of Henry Quarles Moyler and Mrs. Martha Rebecca Andrews Moyler, and was an alumnus of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Moving to Franklin as a young man, he was engaged in the mercantile business here for a few years, and after the disastrous Franklin fire of 1881, became travelling representative for a shoe firm, an occupation which he pursued successfully for many years. Numbering a host of friends and customers throughout Tidewater Virginia and Eastern North Carolina, he was widely and favorably known as a man of the highest type of character, of sterling worth and possessing fine conceptions of integrity and honorary dealings with his followmen. In 1881 Mr. Moyler married Miss Helen Calvert Massenburg of this county, daughter of Dr. William A. and Mrs. Elizabeth Myrick Massenburg, who died in 1888. Of this union there were two children, Miss Rebe Moyler of this town and William A. Moyler who died in April, 1913. In 1892 Mr. Moyler married Miss Mary Ula Sebrell, daughter of James E. and Mrs. Anne Maria Bell Sebrell of Courtland, who died June 4, 1924. Surviving this union is one son, J. Edward Moyler, Jr. Another grandchild, Miss Helen Calvert Moyler of this town, daughter of William A. Moyler and Mrs. Cora Cobb Moyler, survives him. He also leaves a half-sister, Mrs. J. Walter Pond of Wakefield. During his long residence in our town, Mr. Moyler had made many worthwhile contributions to the religious, civic and social life of the town and community.
