All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JAMES EDWARD MOYLER FRANKLIN - A graveside service for James Edward Moyler, Sr., 87, was held Wednesday, Feb. 10 in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Jeremy Galloway. Wright Funeral Home was in charge. Moyler died Monday in Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Franklin, he was the husband of Amelia W. Moyler. He was a member of High Street United Methodist Church and one of its trustees and a former board chairman. He was active in the practice of law for 60 years, having begun in 1921. At the time of his death, he was senior partner for the firm of Moyler, Moyler, Rainey and Cobb which he founded. He was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and Washington and Lee University Law School. He was principal of Rocky Mount High School after graduating from college. Pursuing a lifelong interest in history, education and government, Moyler was appointed by Governor Colgate W. Darden to the Virginia History and Government Textbook Commission and dedicated many years of service to its cause. He served as a member of the board of visitors of Mount Vernon, was a member and past president of the Franklin Community Fund, Franklin Rotary Club, Franklin-Southampton Bar Association and many other organizations. He was a poet, a member of the Virginia Poetry Society and an accomplished public speaker. Other survivors include a daughter, Mary Burwell M. Smith of Williamsburg; a son, James Edward Moyler Jr. of Franklin; a grandson, James Edward Moyler III of Virginia Beach and granddaughter, Rees Moyler Johnston of Birmingham, Alabama and Amelia F. Moyler of Washington, D.C. In lieu of flowers the family suggested that those desiring to send a remembrance make a donation to the Southampton Memorial Hospital East Pavilion Men’s Activity Fund or the charity of their choice.
