MONAGHAN DIES SUDDENLY IN STORE THURSDAY MORNING C.P. Monaghan, well-known citizen of our town, died suddenly Thursday morning in his tailoring establishment in Second Avenue. Mr. Monaghan was apparently in good health but had complained to member of his family that morning of not feeling well. While standing talking to his son, Pat, he suddenly collapsed. Thomas catching his father in his arms and death being practically instantaneous. Dr. J.C. Rawls who was called pronounced it apoplexy. Charles Patrick Monaghan was a native of Glasgow, Scotland, and was 63 years of age. He came of America when a lad of 13 years, working here for four of five years and then returning to his native city. There he married Miss Elizabeth McGowan in 1897 and the same year they came to American and lived in Baltimore for several years. In April 1908, Mr. Monaghan and his family moved to Franklin conducting a tailor’s shop here until 1920. Living in Cradock and South Boston, Va., from 1920 to 1925, they returned to Franklin in July, 1925. Mr. Monaghan was a quiet, honorable citizen, unassuming in manner but a man of many fine qualities. He enjoyed a most successful business here and the confidence of his fellow townsmen generally. He was a consistent communicant of High Street M.E. Church and a member of the fraternal order, Woodmen of the World. Mr. Monaghan is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth McGowan Monaghan; five sons, Thomas, Francis, Pat and Joe Monaghan of this town and Jimmie Monaghan of Cradock; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kinney of Franklin, Miss Virginia Monaghan of Norfolk and Miss Katherine Monaghan of Franklin, and by two grandchildren, Jimmy Monaghan, Jr., and Peggy Kinney. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon from the home in First Avenue by the Rev. Dr. Geo. H. Spooner of the Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. J.W. Fix of the Christian Church, and interment will be made in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The body bearers will be: W.O. Bogart, Dr. R.H. Cobb, R.A. Pretlow, W.H. Norfleet, Harry Steinhardt, W.E. Smith, G.W. Branch and Paul Scarborough.
