All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ THOMAS MONAGHAN Thomas Monaghan, 57, well known resident and business man of Franklin, died unexpectedly at his home on First Avenue Thursday night, May 3, after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Monaghan, a resident of Franklin for 45 years, was in the tailoring and dry cleaning business. He was the son of Mrs. Elizabeth McGowan Monaghan and the late Charles Patrick Monaghan. He was a member of the Congregational Christian church and a veteran of World War I, serving with Company I of the Virginia Infantry. Besides his mother, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Monaghan Serig of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Mrs. Virginia Monaghan Parks of Franklin and Mrs. Catherine Monaghan Ellis of Tulsa, Okla.; four brothers, Francis and C. Patrick Monaghan, Jr. of Franklin, Joe Monaghan of Vancouver, Wash.; and James Monaghan of Cradock and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home with the Father John Jerlinski, pastor of St. Jude's Mission, officiating. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were W. B. Hastings, Rupert Tart, William Tall Jones, J.B. Johnson, W.T. Pace, Jr., Roy Edwards, John Abbitt and Joe P. King.
