HERBERT MANRY The death of Herbert C. Manry and his wife within three days of each other has inexpressibly shocked their many friends in this county where they were well and favorably known, and the universal sympathy of our people goes out to the bereaved family in this double affliction. Mr. Manry was the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Manry of Courtland, and was a young man of fine character, sterling in every sense of the word, a conscientious Christian and a business man of more than ordinary ability. He moved from the county about fifteen years ago to Berkley where he had been connected with the Merchants and Planters Bank of that city ever since in the capacity of assistant cashier, and was a most valued official and numbered many warm personal friends. He was a member of Berkley Avenue Baptist Church and treasurer of Doric Lodge No. 41, A.F. & A.M. Mr. Manry’s death occurred at St. Vincent’s Hospital Monday morning as the result of double pneumonia following an attack of grippe. The funeral was held from the church of which he was a loyal and useful member Tuesday afternoon at 4:40 o’clock, interment following in Riverside Cemetery Berkley. Mrs. Manry, who was critically ill at the time of her husband’s death, followed him Thursday, the funeral and interment taking place in Berkley today. She was Miss Nina M. Herbert, daughter of Mrs. Melnot Herbert of Berkley, and those who knew her esteemed her most highly as a splendid woman, a true Christian, a devoted wife and mother, of many charming attributes. They are survived by two children, Estelle Manry, aged eight years, and Herbert C. Manry, Jr., aged six years. Mr. Manry is also survived by his parents, three brothers, Lucius M., Wilbur J. and Edward F. Manry, and one sister, Miss Gertrude Manry, all of Courtland. Mrs. Manry is survived by her mother, two sisters and two brothers. Mr. Manry was 37 years old and his wife 31.
