Manry, 91, Confederate veteran and long well known in Southside Virginia as a life insurance agent which occurred early today at his home, near Courtland, Southampton County. The funeral services will be held at 4:30 P.M. Thursday from the home. Mr. Manry was born March 13, 1846, at the old home at which his death occurrred, and was a member of a prominently related family in this State. A kinsman was the late General William Mahone, of Petersburg. His interest in the Confederate cause had been unfailing and he had never missed one of the annual reunions of the veterans except when prevented by sickness from attending. He served in the army as a private, and at the time of his death held the rank of a brigadier general of Confederate veterans. He had been a lifelong resident of Virginia and had been for many years in the life insurance business. He first sold assessment or fraternal insurance and later became a salesman of "legal reserve" insurance. For more than half a century he had been a representative of the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company under the general agency which now for many years has been headed by Gaius W. Diggs, general agent, here. Mr. Manry's agency contract was still in force at the time of his death. His fine estate of about 700 acres was located a few mile from Courtland and he was held in affectionate esteem by a large circle of friends. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. George Walter Reese, of Richmond; three sons, Lucius M. Manry, Wilbur J. Manry and Edward S. Manry, all of Courtland, and several grandchildren. ****************************************************************************** GEN.
