MOORE DIES WHEN CAR HITS ANOTHER VEHICLE ON ROAD NEAR STAUNTON TUESDAY Franklin people are much distressed at the tragic death of A.T. Moore, popular hotel man of Staunton and a native of this town, who was instantly killed in an automobile accident near Staunton late Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Moore was a nephew of M.H. Moore of Franklin and was here visiting Mr. Moore only last week. A.T. Moore, or "Toby" as he was popularly known, was born in Franklin 55 years ago, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Moore. Spending his boyhood days here, he became manager of the Warwick Hotel in Newport News about 30 years ago, going from there to Staunton where he published the Staunton Daily News for a while, and later managed the Stonewall Jackson Hotel and the Fairway Tavern on the Lee Highway near Staunton. Besides his hotel interests, Mr. Moore was one of the best-known and most public-spirited citizens of that part of Virginia and was President of its regional chamber of commerce, Shenandoah Valley, Inc. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Holland and Miss Henrietta Moore of Staunton; a step-mother, Mrs. J.W. Moore; a half sister, Mrs. Frank T. Pope; a half-brother, James C. Moore, all of Suffolk; his uncle, M.H. Moore of this town, and a wide circle of friends. M.H. Moore left here Wednesday afternoon with members of the family from Suffolk for the funeral rites which were held in Staunton.
