Moore, in Jackson, N.C. He was born November 17, 1852, at the old Moore homestead near Nottoway Chapel, Southampton County, the son of the late George E. and Mrs. Nancy Story Moore. In 1896 he married Mrs. Nannie Virginia Horne, who died in 1914. He was preceded to the grave many years ago by two sisters, the Misses Kate and Pattie Moore. His only brother, John E. Moore, with whom he had been making his home for the past four years because of ill health, is the sole surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Moore was a promoter of the first telephone company in Southampton County and later installed the system. He was a faithful member of the Nottoway Chapel Methodist Church from his early youth. He served as a steward of Nottoway Chapel and as superintendent of its Sunday school for more than fifty years. His consistent religious life was ever an influence for good and an uplift to the community in which he lived. Although he lived alone at his ancestral home for many years, because of his deep literary taste, his love of nature and his scientific turn of mind, he never experienced the loneliness many would have known under similar circumstances. Besides his brother, Mr. Moore is survived by three nieces; five nephews and a wide family connection. Funeral services for Mr. Moore were held from the Holland Funeral Home in Franklin Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by his Pastor, Rev. A.W. Roten of Courtland, assisted by Rev. Henry W. Davis of Franklin High Street Methodist Church. Burial took place in Nottoway Chapel Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Dr. Ashley Cutchins, Joe Bynum Gay, E.Whitfield, Lucius M. Manry, W.H. Lankford, G.C. Kirkland, Dr. W.T. McLemore and W.J. Sebrell.
