All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EDWIN JESSE MORRIS, JR Edwin Jesse Morris, 70, a resident of Franklin for the past 32 years, died suddenly Friday morning, November 6, at the residence on Jackson Street. Mr. Morris, who had been a painter for many years, formerly lived in South Hill. When he got up Friday morning he was apparently in good health; but he fell dead while starting a fire in the stove in his bedroom. The deceased was the husband of Mrs. Lottie Joe Morris of Franklin, and the son of the late Edwin Jesse and Rebecca Morris of Southampton County. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Alton Junius Morris of Newport News and Harold Gordon Morris of Franklin; one daughter, Mrs. Odena Morris Topping of Newport News; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Elsie M. Vaughan of Sedley and one brother, Robert B. Morris of Freeman. Funeral services for Mr. Morris were conducted in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by Rev. James W. Turner, pastor of High Street Methodist Church, followed by interment in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pallbearers were Gardner Cobb, Buddy Duck, Leland Story, Raby Story, Melvin Topping and L.M. Vaughan.
