[sic*] Marks died at her home, at Popes, on Friday, April 27th, at 2 o'clock P.M. and was buried Sunday at the old burying ground at the George Prince home place. Mrs. Marks was nearly seventy years of age and was greatly beloved by all who knew her. She leaves two sons, Messrs. E.L. and Aubrey Marks. Rosa Smith* (POPE; Mrs. Lewis) MARKS, b. Confederate veteran George William PRINCE (1840 - 1924) & wife Annie Mae (POPE) PRINCE lived near Newsoms; they are buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms. (Southampton Co. WB22 {1899 - 1916}:130-31) Her sons, Edward Lewis & Aubrey Pope MARKS, are buried in Capron Cemetery. MB1A:97; M.Reg. 1866 #14) - & the 1880 Census - Boykins Dist., Southampton Co. - gives Rosa S. The 1900 Census - Boykins Dist., Southampton Co. - definitely gives R.L. She Owned Free Farm #173; widowed, 2 of 5 children surviving. Her husband (b. ca. 1830) was a Confederate veteran, having served as Second Corporal in Co. G, 3rd VA Infantry. Her brother Robert Sugglas POPE (b. ca. 1841) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Cos. A & H, 13th VA Cavalry. Their parents, Mills & Margaret (POPE) POPE, entered an m.bond 15 Sep 1834. (Southampton Co.
