Courtland - A funeral service for Joseph Clyde (Tom) Marks Sr., 66, was held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Capron Cemetery by the Rev. Vann Cash. Pallbearers were: Pete Barham, Charlie Settle, Charles Joyner, Rowland Baker, John Edward Fox and Lewis Clarke. He died Thursday in Greenville Memorial Hospital, Emporia. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Ivey Sledge Marks. He was a retired employee of J.H. Lee & Sons. Other survivors include two sons, Joseph Clyde Marks Jr. of Hopewell and Sterling S. Marks of Richmond; his mother, Mrs. A.P. Marks of Hopewell; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Turner of Capron and Mrs. Virginia Fink of Hopewell; a brother, Paul W. Marks of Courtland; and five grandchildren.
