MORGAN DIES LATE THURSDAY Dr. Thomas Addison Morgan, 52, died Thursday at 10:45 p.m. in Medical College Hospital, Richmond, after an illness since May 21. He was the husband of Mrs. Margaret Ellis Morgan and the son of the late Dr. Lucius Daniel and Mrs. Janie Moorman Morgan of Gladys. Dr. Morgan was a native of Gladys. He was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and also of Medical College of Virginia. After graduation from Medical College in 1936, he came to Raiford Memorial Hospital and was associated with the late Dr. R.L. Raiford. To many Dr. Morgan was known as "Mr. Hospital." He was the oldest member of the Raiford staff from point of service. He was radiologist at Southampton Memorial Hospital and medical examiner for Southampton County. He was publicly acclaimed in several foreign medical journals for his work in the legal aspects of medicine. He was a civil defense leader and gave lectures locally on the effects of atomic radiation. As coroner, he became interested in crime detection by x-rays and helped solve a number of crimes through this means. Dr. Morgan spoke in Chicago and other cities on this subject. He was a member: Franklin Baptist Church, American Medical Association, Southern Medical Association, Radiological Society of North America, Virginia Radiological Society, Tidewater Radiological Society, Tidewater Radiological Society, the Medical Society of Virginia, Franklin Rotary Club, Hunterdale Ruritan Club, Tidewater Beagle Club, Association of Surgeons, Seaboard Airline Railway and Honorary member of Virginia Society of X-Ray Technicians. He was a veteran of World War II, serving for five years in the Medical Corps, U.S. Army, as lieutenant colonel. Much of Dr. Morgan's service time was spent in the China-Burma-India theater. Dr. Morgan was responsible for the first Red Cross bloodmobile bank in Southampton County and acted as its first chairman. He also sponsored Hunterdale Ruritan Club Red Cross Bloodmobile. The July 6 visit of the Bloodmobile at Hunterdale, has been specially dedicated to Dr. Morgan. Many pledges have been received in his honor. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Thomas Addison Morgan, Jr. and Leslie Daniel Morgan; one daughter Miss Margaret Ellis Morgan, all of Franklin; three sisters, Mrs. Norvin G. Maloney of Wilmington, Del., Mrs. James Richard Wooding of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Daniel K. Peak of Franklin; stepmother, Mrs. Willie Moorman Morgan of Gladys. A funeral service was to be conducted on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Franklin Baptist Church by the pastor, the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, and the Rev. Robert E. Fridley, pastor of the High Street Methodist Church. Burial was to be in Poplar Spring Cemetery, W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home in charge. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to Southampton Memorial Hospital. Pallbearers are Dr. Kurt Hirsch, Dr. Henry L. Gardner, John E. Wright, Marion S. Whitfield, W. Tall Jones, George E. Pillow, Herbert E. Edwards and Robert A.
