She was the wife of Joseph Randolph Newsome and a daughter of Wade and Mrs. Anise Joyner Mumford*. She was a lifelong resident of Southampton County. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Anise Barnett of Richmond, Mrs. Helen Vick of Courtland, Mrs. Josie Gay of Seaboard, N.C., and Mrs. Irma Scott of Branchville; a son, Joseph R. Newsome, Jr., of Branchville; a brother, Jim Vernon Mumford of Petersburg; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral service was held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Branchville Baptist Church by the Rev. C.M. Mitchell and the Rev. H. Warren Landis. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Pallbearers were G. Hinson Parker, Jr., Joe Gay Bryant, George R. Brown, J.E. Henry, Edwin D. Priggen, Dr. Hugh Westbrook, B.A. ("Tony") Cobb and John M. Camp.
