Charlie Lawrence Newsome, Sr., 85, died Tuesday. Funeral 3 p.m. Thursday Drewryville Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** CHARLES LAWRENCE NEWSOME SR. DREWRYVILLE - Charlie Lawrence Newsome Sr., 85, died in his home here Tuesday after illness of several days. Born in Northampton County, N.C., he was a son of John T. and Mrs. Parthie Martin Newsome. He lived here 60 years and owned and operated a general merchandise store. He was a member of Drewryville Methodist Church and was 50-year member of Courtland Masonic Lodge 85. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Essie Edward Newsome; three sons, C.L. Newsome, Jr. of San Diego and James E. Newsome and Edwin B. Newsome of Drewryville; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Mae Ragaleski of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. The body was taken from McDowell Funeral Home to Drewryville Cemetery for a funeral service Thursday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Dalphon J. Thompson of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Wilson Spain, Milton Edwards, Howard Newsome, Norris Owen, Lewis Covington, Bruce Flowers Jr. and Robert Claude; family friends were honorary pallbearers. Masonic rites were by his lodge.
