NEWSOM A funeral service for Thomas E. Newsom will be held today at 2:30 p.m. in the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. Rev. Ira D. Hudgins will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Beaver Dam Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Whitley, James Rogers, Clyde Burgess, Herbert Booth, Wade Parker, John Boyette, and Albert Boyette. Newsoms, 79, died Tuesday afternoon in Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of Simon E. and Mrs. Isabelle Fowler Newsom and the husband of Mrs. Ida West Newsom. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Whitley and Mrs. Jane Ellis of Franklin, Mrs. Sallie Mae Bittle of Holland, Mrs. Mary Catherine Babb of Petersburg, and Mrs. Peggy Powell of Lansing, Mich.; two sons, Thomas W. Newsom of Suffolk and James E. Newsom of Chesterfield; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Capps of Franklin, Mrs. T.A. Jones of Suffolk, and Miss Eva Newsom of Holland; 30 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Thomas E.
