He was the son of the late David and Fannie Hayes Newsome of Gates County, N.C., and a member of the Newsoms Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lida Wiggins Newsome of Newsoms; two brothers, Paul Newsome of Newsoms and David Newsome of Franklin; four sisters, Mrs. M.E. Johnson of Newsoms, Mrs. J.F. Flythe of Portsmouth, Mrs. W.T. Lassiter of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Mrs. Roy L. Gray of Franklin; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o’clock Monday afternoon at the graveside in Newsoms cemetery, Rev. Mr. Hughes, pastor of the Newsoms Baptist Church, officiateing. The pallbearers were R.H. Newsome, Garnette Newsome, Clarence Newsome, Guy Johnson, L.D. Story, and J.P. Coggsdale.
