All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOSEPH EUGENE NELMS SMITHFIELD - A funeral service for Joseph Eugene Nelms Sr., 74, was held Sunday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, by the Rev. Warren F. Taylor. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. Pallbearers were: T. Vasco Batten, Joseph H. Barlow, Glenn I. Dixon, N. Kenneth Jones, Ralph W. Thacker and C.E. Jones Jr. Nelms died Thursday in a Suffolk hospital. A native of Isle of Wight County, he was the husband of the late Ruby Blythe Nelms of Franklin. He was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church and the Baraca Men’s Bible Class. He was owner of Kello Motor Company, Smithfield and operated the Nelms Motor Line in Suffolk for over 31 years. Survivors include three sons, Eugene Nelms Jr., Herbert C. Nelms, and Joseph Hunter Nelms all of Smithfield; two sisters, Mrs. Emily Nelms Turner of Ivor, Mrs. Ethel N. Baber of Newport News; one brother, Matt Thomas Nelms of Smithfield and nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
