NORFLEET, NATIVE OF STATE, DIES IN CUBA FRANKLIN, VA., May 14 - Mrs. Elizabeth Atkinson Norfleet, a native of Franklin, died Sunday in Havana, Cuba, after a heart attack. She was visiting her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Caswell, Jr., at their home there. Mrs. Norfleet was the widow of Herbert Lee Norfleet, also a native of Franklin, who died in October. Mr. and Mrs. Norfleet had moved to Havana in 1900 shortly after their marriage. Mrs. Norfleet had made her home in Miami, Fla., since her husband’s death. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Caswell, she is survived by a son, Wilson Norfleet, of Baltimore and four grandchildren. Several close relatives live in Franklin, among them Mrs. Robert J. Camp and George Watkins. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Emanuel Episcopal Church at Franklin, with burial in Poplar Spring Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** ELIZABETH MOORE ATKINSON NORFLEET Mrs. Elizabeth Atkinson Norfleet, widow of Herbert Lee Norfleet, died early Sunday morning, May 14, in Havana, Cuba, where she was visiting her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Caswell, Jr., at their home in that city. Apparently in good health, she suffered a heart attack which resulted in her death. Mrs. Norfleet was a native of Southampton County, as was her husband, who died last October in Baltimore, Md. She was the daughter of the late A.A. Atkinson and Vesuvia Moore Atkinson. Her early life was spent in Franklin, and she and Mr. Norfleet were married in the Franklin Methodist Church in January, 1900. Thereafter she and her husband resided in Havana, where they were prominent members of the American colony. A few years ago they established a home in Miami, Fla., where Mrs. Norfolk had lived since her husband’s death. In addition to Mrs. Caswell she is survived by a son, Wilson W. Norfleet of Baltimore, four grandchildren, and several relatives in Franklin. Funeral services were held in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Franklin, on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, with burial in Poplar Spring Cemetery, where her mother and husband are also buried. The pallbearers were George O. Watkins, W.W. Caswell, Jr., C.C. Vaughan, 3rd, Dr. Beaman Story, Franklin Edwards, John C. Parker, Rev. E. Norfleet Gardner, and Joe Gay Bryant.
