The accident which resulted fatally occurred on Second Avenue in front of the Franklin Service Station at 5:45 a.m. According to young Blythe, who was hurrying to park his automobile at the Cavalier Service Station so as to catch the Navy Yard bus, Mr. Norfleet appeared suddenly out of nowhere in front of his car. It was Mr. Norfleet’s custom to stop at the Franklin Café for an early morning cup of coffee on his way to the mill; and it was after leaving the Café that he was hit. From all accounts the accident was unavoidable. Mr. Norfleet was picked up and brought in the Navy Yard bus to the hospital, where it was found that, along with other injuries sustained, both legs and an arm had been broken. It was evident from the first that his injuries would necessarily prove fatal. The victim, who was 67 years old had been in the continuous employ of the Camp Manufacturing Company for 48 years, and had worked for the same concern for a total of 51 years, entering upon his duties as a young man. The circumstances of his untimely passing were particularly distressing to his family and friends, since he had lost his wife, Mrs. Minnie Estelle Norfleet, less than two weeks ago. He was universally admired and respected by a wide circle of acquaintances who knew his true worth as an individual and as a citizen. Mr. Norfleet was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Abram Norfleet and is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Noland Jordan, Mrs. Herman Caroon and Mrs. Cecil Old; 15 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Lucy Norfleet Scott, of Philadelphia. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the Holland Funeral Home by the Rev. Ernest W. Aaron and burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were: R.L. Whitfield, J.J. McGee, Abram Norfleet, Jim Norfleet, Hersey Fowler, Joseph Fowler, John and Bill Norfleet.
