ROBERT NORFLEET BURIED HERE TUESDAY Dr. Robert Gordon Norfleet, a native of Franklin and for many years a successful dentist in Mexico, the Canal Zone, Princess Anne, Md., and Norfolk, was buried here Tuesday afternoon in the Norfleet burial plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the rites being conducted by the Rev. George P. Gunn, rector of the Church of The Good Shepherd, Norfolk, where Dr. Norfleet was an active communicant and vestryman. Funeral services were held at the Church of The Good Shepherd Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock, the body being brought here for burial. The pallbearers were: W.T. Old, D. Baker Ames, Dr. C.B. Gifford, A.P.S. Robinson, Dr. J. Pilcher Bradshaw, Dr. B.E. Harrell, Dr. W.B. Martin and Dr. Julian Rawls of Norfolk, and Dr. Beaman Story, Franklin Edwards and Claude J. Edwards of this town. Dr. Norfleet was born in Franklin 68 years ago, the son of the late Alexander Wilson Norfleet and Mrs. Indiana Norfleet. He was educated in the elementary schools here, and at the College of William and Mary, receiving his professional training at the University of Maryland. A man of fine character and of unusually engaging personality, he numbered a wide circle of friends here and wherever he had made his home. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and was quite active in the Sons of the American Revolution, being first president of the Norfolk Chapter of that organization, a large delegation of its member accompanying the funeral cortege to Franklin for the committal rites. Dr. Norfolk died in the Norfolk General Hospital Monday morning after a week’s illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nancy Elzey* Norfleet; one son, Robert Gordon Norfleet, 2nd, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 3 daughters, Mrs. Norman G. Poerstel and Miss Katherine Ridgley Norfleet of Norfolk and Mrs. Victor D. Long, of Newport, Del.; one brother, Herbert Lee Norfleet of Havana, Cuba; two sisters, Mrs. A.L. Gardner and Mrs. John C. Parker of Franklin; one grandson, Robert Gordon Norfleet, 3d, and several nephews and nieces.
