C. Allen Lawrence of Newsoms Baptist Church. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were W.T. Bryant, W.A. Cooke, Clyde Vinson, Linwood Pope, James Fuller and Ashby Nurney. Nurney, 71, died early Wednesday in a Richmond hospital after a long illness. A native of Hertford County, N.C., he was a son of Willie and Mrs. Sallie Parker Nurney. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections and was an Army veteran of World War I. Surviving is his widow, Mrs. Jennie Belle Pope Nurney.
