Dan Ivey and the Rev. John O’Cain. McDowell Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers were Gene Edwards, Ellis Cobb, Melvin Mann, W.R. Emmonds, David Sykes and L.W. Grizzard. Overby, 62, a retired Branchville councilman, died Wednesday in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of the late Virginia Gertrude Overby and a son of Mrs. Nellie Beale Overby and the late Robert C. Overby. He was a farm implements dealer and garage owner. He retired last year from the council after serving many years. He was a member of Branchville Methodist Church. Besides his mother, surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Horace Edwards of Branchville, seven brothers, Alton Overby and Herman Overby of Branchville, Linwood Overby and Clinton Overby of Ahoskie, N.C., Rudolph Overby of Boykins, Russell Overby of Courtland and Larry Overby of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Sterling House Jr. of Capron and Mrs. Clay Beasley of Branchville; and two grandchildren.
