She was a daughter of the late Willie Burton and Mrs. Carrie Beale Overby. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, she was a member of Branchville Baptist Church. Surviving are five sisters, Miss Edna E. Overby of Branchville, Mrs. Mary Barnes and Mrs. R. Hazel Williams of Newport News, and Mrs. Ruth Lackey and Mrs. Lillian R. Garris of Suffolk; eight brothers, Marvin W. Overby, Eddie M. Overby, John C. Overby, and Willie D. Overby of Emporia, Clifton L. Overby of Drewryville, Leon O. Overby of Franklin, and Herman W. Overby and Ben R. Overby of Holland. A funeral service was conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Branchville Baptist Church by the Rev. Fred Taylor, pastor. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Pallbearers were Thomas Grizzard, B.C. Edwards, Newman Milteer, Lewis Jordan, Horace Edwards and Cleo Spence.
