WILLIE BURTON OVERBY

   BRANCHVILLE - Willie Burton Overby, 81, died at his residence here Friday 
at 11:40 a.m. after a long illness.

   A native of North Carolina, he had lived in Southampton County for 65 
years.  He was a retired farmer and a member of Branchville Methodist Church.

   He was the husband of the late Mrs. Carrie Beale Overby and a son of the 
late John and Eliza Canada Overby.

   He is survived by six daughters, Miss Edna E. Overby and Miss Lina G. 
Overby of Branchville, Mrs. Mary Barnes and Mrs. R. Hazel Williams of Newport 
News, Mrs. Ruth Lackey of Suffolk, and Mrs. Llillian. L. Garris of Portsmouth, 
eight sons, Marvin W. Overby, Eddie M. Overby, John C. Overby and Willie D. 
Overby of Emporia, Clifton L. Overby of Drewryville, Leon O. Overby of 
Franklin, Herman W. Overby of Holland, and Ben R. Overby of Holland; 20 
grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

   A funeral service was held at Branchville Methodist Church Sunday at 3 p.m. 
conducted by the Rev. William Ferguson, pastor of Monumental Methodist Church 
of Emporia.  Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins.

   Pallbearers were Thomas Grizzard, Linton Grizzard, Dr. J.J. Grizzard, B.C. 
Edwards, Newman Milteer, Lewis Jordan, Horace Edwards and Clay Beasley.
