All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ RUTH BARNES OVERMAN Mrs. Ruth Barnes Overman, 58, a native of Southampton County and a resident of Franklin for the past several years, died on Friday night, May 23, after a lingering illness. She was the daughter of the late Angus Benjamin Barnes and Susan Temperance (Bryant) Barnes, of this county, and was a member of the High Street Methodist Church. Surviving her are her husband, G.D. Overman of Norfolk; two stepsons, G.D. Overman, Jr., of Norfolk and Aubrey Yates Overman of Cleveland, Ohio; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Fred Moore of Fountain, S.C., Miss Virginia Mae Overman of Suffolk, and Mrs. N.T. Duck of Franklin; one step-granddaughter, Miss Carolyn Moore of Fountain, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. E.F. Babb and Mrs. Thomas Vaughan of Courtland; and three brothers, Willie Barnes of Dolphin and Carrol W. and Robert T. Barnes of Courtland. Funeral services for Mrs. Overman were conducted from High Street Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon at two o’clock by the pastor, Rev. Elmer N. Hassell, assisted by Rev. E.R. Collie, pastor of the Courtland Methodist Church. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, the active pallbearers being Harwood Babb, William Babb, Bernard King, H.G. Barnes, Norfleet Barnes, Julian Dickens, Gordan Barnes, Sam Johnson and Ben Babb. Ruth (BARNES WILLIAMS; Mrs. Gideon D.
