JOSEPH DANIEL OWEN, SR. 

Joseph Daniel Owen, Sr., 71, a resident of Sedley, died Tuesday, August 13, 
1974.  He was a retired merchant, a member of Grace Memorial Methodist Church, 
a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Knights of Pythias and Woodmen of the 
World.  He is survived by his wife, Carolyn B. Owen of Sedley; three sons, 
J.D. Owen, Jr. of San Francisco, B. Harold Owen of Courtland, Rev. Edward B. 
Owen of Richmond; a daughter, Mrs. Carole O. Shereda of Ricmond; two sisters, 
Mrs. John A. Bailey, Sedley and Mrs. Carrie O. Manning, Tampa, Fla.; two 
brothers, Russell W. Owen of Sedley and Rev. Harwood B. Owen of Richmond; five 
grandchildren.  Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 A.M. with Masonic 
rites, in the Riveride Cemetery in Courtland.  In lieu of flowers, the family 
request donations to the Grace Memorial Methodist Church in care of Maurice 
Simmons, Sedley, Va.  The remains rest at the Purviance Funeral home in 
Wakefield.
