All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ VIRGINIA LEIGH GILES OWNEY IVOR - A funeral service for Virginia Giles Owney, 64, was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. J. Lytle Buckingham. Burial was in Ivor Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Merrill Carr Sr., Merrill Carr, Jr., James N. Nash, Massey Joyner, Joe Hobbs, Fred Ashby, J. Russell West and Frankie Britt. Mrs. Owney died Monday in her home. A native of Isle of Wight County, she was a former nurse's aide. Mrs. Owney was a member of Ivor Baptist church and a charter member of the Ivor Rescue Squad. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Wilson Owney; three daughters, Carolyn O. Carr and Brenda Joyner both of Ivor, and Phyllis Perkins of Williamsburg; a son, Joseph W. (Buddy) Owney of Suffolk; two sisters, Dorothy Lassiter of Williamsburg and Audrey Chapman of Windsor; two brothers, W. Randolph Giles of Ivor and Seward Giles of Sedley; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Ivor Rescue Squad.
