Feb. 6, 1995 at Courtland Nursing Home, Courtland. Born in Halifax County, N.C. she was the widow of John Simon Owens. She was a member and taught Sunday School at Boykins United Methodist Church and was a member of the Tarrara Woman's Club. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Ida Sykes McCoy. She is survived by her son, Dick Owens of Nashville, Tn.; two sisters, Edna M. Ewald of Norfolk and Mildred M. Minton, Franklin; three brothers, Herman McCoy of Boykins, Cecil McCoy of Aulander, N.C. and Harold McCoy of Ahoskie, N.C.; and three grandchildren. A funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. in Boykins United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Gochenour. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel handled arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Boykins Volunteer Rescue Squad or to the church.
