OWENS Mr. John Bunyan Owens died Sunday December 22nd and was buried in Poplar Spring cemetery the following Tuesday at 12 o’clock noon, funeral services being conducted at the residence of the deceased in First Avenue by Rev. J.L. McCutcheon of the Franklin Baptist Church. Mr. Owens was a native of Nansemond County but had been a resident of the town for a number of years and was a consecrated and devout member of the Baptist church. He had been in a state of ill health for several years. He leaves a widow Mrs. Helen Owens; five children, Miss Ruth Owens, Mr. J.R. Owens of Lawrenceville, Mrs. W.O. Bogart and Misses Mayab and Helen Owens; three brothers, Messrs. Carson Owens of Alabama and R.W. Owens of Churchland and Rev. Oscar L. Owens of Baltimore; two sisters, Mrs. R.B. Hayes of Whaleyville and C.G. Parker of Franklin. The pallbearers were: Active, W.O. Bogart, W.O. Bristow, J.J. Bristow, E. Frank Story, Dr. A.P. Cutchin, Ryland Camp; Honorary, J.C. Parker, Henry Cobb, P.D. Camp, Col. L.R. Edwards, J.P. Gay, Dr. W.H.L. Goodman. The bereaved family have the sympathy of our townspeople in their sorrow.
