We are reminded of these words as we think of the sad death of Mrs. Adaline Hart Pope July 13, 1921, in the thirty-sixth year of her age. Mrs. Pope was the daughter of Mrs. Pauline Hart of Capron and the late Q.T. Hart.* She was a consistent member of Newsoms M.E. Church, serving as organist for many years, and the faithful teacher of the Ladies Bible Class. Her relation to Christ was that of faith, devout service and sincerity. Mrs. Pope was a woman of rare culture, of intellectual attainments, of charming personality, one who could grace any occasion, and who radiated sunshine by her sunny disposition. And yet when she lay cold in death in the flower bedecked home, and one by one those who had known and loved her came in, it was the kindly deeds the patience, which never failed, the gospel of cheerfulness which she lived, the example which she set of an abiding faith in God, that lingered as a gracious, tender memory in the hearts of all. She was a devoted wife, a gentle, loving mother, a kind and generous friend and neighbor. She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, Dr. B.A. Pope; several small children; mother, Mrs. Pauline Hart of Capron; a devoted aunt, Miss Pattie hart; two sisters, Mrs. Kelly of Capron and Miss Louise Hart of Norfolk and one brother, Mr. John Hart of Baltimore. The funeral services were held at her late home by two of her former pastors, Rev. W.J. Williams of Cradock, and Rev. W.R. Evans of South Norfolk and Rev. J.P. Essex of Newsoms Baptist Church. The pallbearers were J.T. Story, G.P. Vick, Amos Gillette, J.B. Everett, G.T. Cook, Thomas Ivey, H.L. Duke, R.B. Story, R.N. Darden. Her body was laid to rest in Newsoms cemetery, there to await the resurrection morn. Beautiful and profuse floral offerings were heaped upon the grave by sorrow-stricken friends. We miss her - Some of the brightness has gone from our lives, some of the joy has flown, but for her passing out of the dear home life to the home of the soul, there was the clasp of her savior’s hand, as he led her through the shadow, there was the welcoming smile of her Heavenly Father’s "well done," which greeted her on the eternal shore.
