All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CUTHBERT WILLIAM POPE Following an illness of more than a year Cuthbert William Pope passed away November 2 at 8:52 o’clock p.m., at his home, 197 Piedmont Avenue, Petersburg. Mr. Pope was a native of Southampton County and had reached the advanced age of 74 years. For many years the deceased was connected with the Life Insurance Company of Virginia, failing health requiring him to give up his position several years ago. Mr. Pope was a Christian gentleman and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Lee Pope, and daughter, Mrs. Lucy A. Baugham, of Southampton County; and two sons, Cuthbert W. Pope, Jr., and John H. Pope of Colonial Heights. Funeral services were held November 4 at 11 o’clock from Highland M.E. Church of which he was a consistent member. The Pastor, Rev. Jesse Harrison Hobbs, officiated and the following gentlemen served as pallbearers: S.R. Gresham, Jacob Savage, Walter James, W.S. Ivey, J.H. Thacker and Davis Aldredge. The interment was made in Blandford Cemetery.
