Charlie Burroughs Pope, Sr., age 71, of Capron died Friday morning in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A native of Southampton County he was the son of Samuel and Mrs. Frances Vick Pope and the husband of Mrs. Mary Worrell Pope. He was associated with L.J. Bain and Son in Capron for over 40 years. He was a member of Capron United Methodist Church, a Sunday School teacher, member of the Board of Stewarts, a fifty-year member of the Woodman of the World Lodge and a former member of the Town Council. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bert Pulley of Courtland; a son, Charlie B. Pope, Jr. of Richmond; a sister, Mrs. J.H. Stephenson of Capron, and 6 grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home, Franklin by the Rev. William F. McMahan. Burial will be in the Capron Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions mat be made to the Cardiac Care Unit of Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. ****************************************************************************** CHARLIE BURROUGHS POPE SR. CAPRON - A funeral service for Charlie Burroughs Pope Sr. was held February 20 in Franklin by the Rev. William F. McMahan. Burial was in Capron Cemetery. Pallbearers were Southgate Lee Sr., R.H. Worrell, Jr., W.H. Tunstall Jr., William B. Gillette, Charles B. Settle and Linwood T. Ricks. Pope, 71, died February 18 in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A native of Southampton County, he was the son of Samuel and Mrs. Frances Vick Pope and the husband of Mrs. Mary Worrell Pope. He was associated with L.J. Bain & Son in Capron for over 40 years. He was a member of Capron United Methodist Church, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the board of stewards’ member of Capron Woodmen of the World Lodge for over 50 years, and a former member of the Capron Town Council. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter Mrs. Bert Pulley of Courtland; a son, Charlie B. Pope Jr. of Richmond; a sister, Mrs. J.H. Stephenson of Capron and six grandchildren.
