Pope, 70, well-known resident of the Newsoms community, died at his home near Newsoms community, died at his home near Newsoms Sunday afternoon after an illness of a few days. He was the son of George Harrison* and Louisa Beale Pope, of Southampton County. Surviving him is one sister, Mrs. E.M. Darden, of Norfolk and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the grave in Newsoms Cemetery by the Rev. F.L. Baker of Newsoms. Active pallbearers were Geo. R. Prince, Dr. B.A. Pope, W.C. Nurney, W.T. O’berry, S.W. Rawls and W.B. Darden.
