Futrell, near Woodland. He had been in poor health a number of years but when the final summons came he lived only a few hours. He was born in Southampton County, Virginia, March 11, 1841. He was the son of Anderson and Nancy Pope*. When the War Between the States broke out he entered the army of the Confederacy, serving in Company G, Third Virginia Infantry, Pickett’s Division. He married Miss Alberta Ferguson in 1869. About thirty years ago they moved to North Carolina. He was a farmer until ill health prevented, a life- long Democrat, a true patriot, a man who had faith and confidence in his fellowman. Although he never connected himself with any church he greatly respected and honored a person with pure and undefiled religious principles. His Master showed forth His tender mercies for no one could have passed away more patiently and peachfully than he. Grandfather we miss your footsteps here, but some day in the great beyond we hope to meet you. He leaves a widow and four daughters, Mrs. J.I. Futrell and Mrs. L.F. Liverman, Conway, N.C.; Mrs. W.J. Vaughan, Union, N.C., and Mrs. R.A. Rogers, Halifax, N.C.
