Pope, age 67 of Capron, died Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a short illness. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, he was a merchant and farmer for many years. He was the son of the late B.L. and Virginia Bryant Pope of Capron. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Scarboro Pope; one sons, James D. Pope of Capron and two daughter, Mrs. William Roberts of Shawboro, N.C. and Mrs. L.T. Francis of Capron. Also surviving are three brothers, Benjamin H. of Capron; Thomas E., Richmond; Joe Nathan Sr. of Chesapeake; four sisters, Mrs. Richard Banty, Mrs. Clarence Thompson, Mrs. Joe Tom Griffin, all of Capron; and Mrs. Frank Whitehurst of Chesapeake. The deceased had eight grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Capron Methodist Church, with Rev. C.B. Spivey Jr. officiating.
